End of the season

In a season plagued with teams forfeiting left, right and centre, for some the end of the campaign couldn’t come sooner. The farce was finally concluded with the old enemy Western failing to turn up and as a result Methven have been crowned champions of the cup tournament. However it is debatable whether this accolade should be granted, considering the Mountainers didn’t actually play a single match in the competition. It would be far better to have written the tournament off as something that was set up with good intentions but climaxed in complete failure. Whatever the verdict, it is safe to assume it is indisputably a hollow victory.
Methven Seniors will now take time out before they prepare for next years division 2 league season.
There was a matched played at the weekend, more of a formality than anything else. The Methven Reserves, mark 2, of course heavily aided by first team players ran out 7-2 winners in a match that was at best an exhibition game.
That’s it for this year, this has been John Peneycad and it’s been emotional. Have a great summer and catch you all in 2020.
