A real statement

The Mountaineers appeared to be bang up for this one from the off and it wasn’t long before they made their dominance count with Rory Lawn flicking on a corner at the near post, to be headed in from close range by Nick Eden, 0-1. The visitors seized on good fortune to make it 0-2, after a goalmouth scramble ended in disaster for Selwyn and Diego managed to have the final say, calming the melee with a fine strike.

The man mountain, Liam Hett soon provided a 0-3 buffer, heading with authority from a delicious Wesley Torres cross.

Veteran keeper, James Wasley could have had time to enjoy a picnic with the linesman as his defense kept him redundant for large parts of this match and the first half onslaught wasn’t done yet as Eden grabbed his second of the afternoon, rifling home from a Thabs Khabu lay off, 0-4.

Khabu then got himself on the scoresheet when the striker demonstrated good timing to beat the offside trap and with great composure, finished under pressure, 0-5.

All the work was done in the first half and the second appeared quite pedestrian compared to the early standards. The only blemish of a fantastic day was the injury to skipper Rowan Smithers. Its far too early to determine the true extent yet but Methven will be hoping that scans won’t reveal anything too lasting.

Unfortunately, it was another bad day at the office for the second string side, with yet another hefty defeat. Juan Fissore and Dylan Sheer netted again, which is a positive, however they will desperately need to improve in defensive areas if they are to prosper in their promotion aspirations.
